Depresión, Estrés Postraumático y Estrategias de Afrontamiento en una Muestra de Adultos Víctimas de Crimen Residentes en Puerto Rico

El propósito de esta investigación consistió en explorar los síntomas de depresión, estrés postraumático y las estrategias de afrontamiento ante una victimización y la relación entre estas variables con la población de adultos víctimas de crimen residentes en Puerto Rico. Se utilizó un diseño de investigación ex post facto, no experimental transversal de tipo exploratorio y de alcance correlacional. La muestra estuvo compuesta por 81 adultos residentes en Puerto Rico de 21 años en adelante. Los hallazgos indicaron que existe una correlación alta y significativa entre los síntomas de depresión y estrés postraumático. Se encontró, además, una correlación baja e inversamente significativa entre los síntomas de depresión y la estrategia de afrontamiento enfocado en la emoción. Con relación a la estrategia de afrontamiento enfocado en la evitación, se encontró una correlación moderada y significativa con los síntomas de depresión y con los síntomas de estrés postraumático. Se concluye que las víctimas de crimen muestran diversos perfiles sintomáticos y que su forma de enfrentarse al trauma es una variada y multidimensional.
