Abstract

Burnout is the presence of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and decreased sense of personal achievement. According to the literature, recent studies that measure burnout have been in teachers, doctors, and nurses. However, there are no studies that measure burnout in psychologists in Puerto Rico. For this reason, our study aimed to measure burnout levels and examine the psychometric properties of the Maslash Burnout Inventory General Scale (MBI-GS) in a sample of psychologists in Puerto Rico during covid -19. One hundred forty-nine psychologists participated in the study by availability who completed the online scale. We performed descriptive statistical analyzes and item analyzes by scale to estimate the discrimination indices (rbis) of the MBI-GS. An exploratory factor analysis was then performed using the principal axes factorization extraction method with an oblimin rotation. According to the results, the MBI-GS Spanish version has high levels of internal consistency (a=.92), validity, and reliability. The scale has 16 items grouped into three factors: Emotional Exhaustion, Cynicism, and Professional Efficacy. With this study, we provide empirical evidence about the psychometric properties of the MBI-GS in Psychologists, which allows replicating its use in future research in Puerto Rico..
