Relación entre el Perfeccionismo y la Procrastinación Académica en Estudiantes Universitarios en República Dominicana

Resumen

Dada su asociación a diversos problemas psicológicos, existe un creciente interés en encontrar modelos que expliquen el vínculo perfeccionismo-procrastinación, especialmente en el ámbito educativo. Este estudio correlacional investigó si existe una relación significativa entre el perfeccionismo y la procrastinación académica, y si existen diferencias entre perfeccionistas adaptativos y desadaptativos en cuanto a procrastinación académica. 116 estudiantes universitarios en República Dominicana respondieron a las escalas APS-R y EPA. El análisis de Pearson encontró correlaciones significativas entre el perfeccionismo (altos estándares, orden y percepción de discrepancia) y la procrastinación académica (postergación de actividades y autorregulación académica). La prueba U de Mann-Whitney encontró una diferencia significativa en postergación de actividades y una no significativa en autorregulación académica, entre los perfeccionistas adaptativos y desadaptativos de la muestra. Los resultados sugieren que la percepción de discrepancia parece ser el factor que explica esta diferencia entre los grupos, infiriéndose que estudiantes organizados y con altos estándares parecen autorregularse más –postergando menos sus actividades académicas–, mientras que aquellos con alta discrepancia se sienten incapaces de alcanzar sus estándares o insatisfechos con su desempeño –tendiendo a procrastinar más. Los hallazgos justifican la implementación de estrategias psicoeducativas en programas que busquen promover el éxito académico en estudiantes universitarios.
