Psychometric Properties of the Spanish Version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory

The purpose of the following research was to conduct a psychometric analysis of the Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey; Spanish Version (Salanova et al., 2006) (subscale of the RED [Emotional Resources/Experiences] WONT team’s questionnaire). The study consisted of a secondary data analysis with a total sample of 815 workers from different labor sectors in Puerto Rico. The results of the research show that the instrument has a four-factor structure. The indexes of Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey; Spanish Version (Salanova et al., 2006) showed adequate discrimination capabilities. The four dimensions of the are consistent in measuring the dimensions of the burnout syndrome. In addition, the four factors demonstrated adequate internal consistency values that ranged from .78 to .88 on Cronbach's alpha, and from .81 to .88 for McDonald's omega. It is concluded that Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey; Spanish Version (Salanova et al., 2006) has appropriate psychometric properties for use in organizational research and diagnosis in Puerto Rico.
