Abstract

Psychological capital is a construct of positive work psychology, such psychological capacities (hope, efficacy, resilience, and optimism) can be measured, developed, and manageable to improve individual performance and organization (Youssef & Luthans, 2013). The main objective of this research is to examine the psychometric characteristics of the Psychological Capital Scale (CapPsi) by Omar et al. (2014), to know its validity and reliability to measure psychological capital in a sample of 443 employees in Puerto Rico. The factorial structure of the CapPsi Scale was examined by confirmatory factor analysis with structural equations and demonstrated the CapPsi scale is a structure of four latent factors (15 items). The Psychological Capital Scale (15 items) demonstrated adequate internal consistency in Cronbach’s alpha and McDonald’s omega (α =.86, ω = .87), Klein (2005). The scale did not demonstrate convergent validity in this study; the average variance extracted (AVE) has a value less than .50, below the minimum acceptable, Fornell y Larcker (1981). We recommended the adaption and validity of the CapPsi scale by Omar et al. (2014) in the work culture in Puerto Rico.
