El Suicidio en el Terrorismo Radical Islámico

Resumen

El terrorismo suicida en las organizaciones terroristas fundamentalista radical Islámicas ha sido históricamente relacionado con el conflicto entre Israel y Palestina (Tzoreff, 2006; Schweitzer, 2006a; Schweitzer, 2006b). Este fenómeno tomó más reconocimiento internacional con la formación del al-Qaida en Irak después de la invasión de este país por los Estados Unidos el 20 de marzo de 2003. Pero es importante señalar que el terrorismo suicida también ha sido ejecutado por otras organizaciones terroristas fuera de la región Israel-Palestina e Irak. Dos ejemplos en este contexto son el "Tamil Tigers" en Sri Lanka, la cual ha cometido el mayor número de suicidio terroristas en el mundo y los Chechen en Rusia. El objetivo de este artículo es presentar un sumario general del terrorismo suicida ejecutado por grupos fundamentalistas radicales Islámicos. Este sumario será seguido por una discusión de los orígenes de este tipo de terrorismo, con especial énfasis en las mujeres suicidas. Pero antes de plantear esos objetivos, es importante describir el "suicidio" como un caso clínico en términos de la definición generalmente aceptada de este fenómeno.
