Sexual violence is a public health problem that affects people's well-being. LGBT+ people are more likely to experience sexual violence than others. The purpose of this study was to explore the challenges in finding support services among LGBT+ survivors of sexual violence in Puerto Rico. This qualitative triangular phenomenological study was based on the Culturally Inclusive Ecological Model for Recovery from Sexual Assault and Minority Stress Theory (#2109072035). Semi-structured interviews were conducted with LGBT+ survivors (n=1), aid professionals (n=2), and community leaders (n=2), between February 2022 and June 2023. A data triangulation was carried out between these interviews. The results reflected that sexual violence has been normalized. Deficiencies in the support systems were evident. Participants emphasized the importance of sex education and community awareness, access to services, representation of the LGBT+ population in media campaigns, and trainings on working with LGBT+ survivors. Participants are not satisfied with the support system. It is important to act and research to develop tools that improve the support system.
