Abstract

This study aimed to obtain information on how a sample of workers perceive the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in organizations in Puerto Rico. The responses of 46 employees selected by criteria and convenience were qualitatively analyzed. Half were men, the other half women, and one non-binary person. The average age was 40.1 years (SD=11.4), mostly in the service sector. A semi-structured interview with two sections was used: 10 sociodemographic questions and 14 open-ended questions aligned with the study's objectives (knowledge, attitudes, and recommendations toward AI). The results highlight fear towards the integration of AI in organizations as the primary emotion experienced. There were positive expectations about optimization and efficiency that allows AI and negative ones such as downsizing and job loss. The results reflect the employees' perspective on AI at work, contributing with possible implementation strategies from Organizational Industrial Psychology that consider psychological well-being.
